Mother, teacher, Schenectady Patroon Kay Canty dies; Son Michael Canty killed 9/11 at WTC

Kathryn “Kay” Canty has died at the age of 84. She was awarded Schenectady’s highest honor ten years ago, becoming a Schenectady Patroon for her charity work honoring her son Michael, who was killed in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center.

Canty had eight other children and was a Schenectady City School District teacher for many years.

She and her husband Ed ran the Michael Canty Family Fun Run for ten years, raising funds for scholarships for local students in Michael’s honor, reports Steven Cook for the Schenectady Daily Gazette.
