Joseph L. Pidoto, 51, former NYPD detective known for his kindness, dies

Joseph L. Pidoto, a retired NYPD detective, died of liver cancer caused by his work at the World Trade Center site after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, writes Chau Lam for Newsday.

Detective Pidoto, 51, was assigned to the 104th Precinct in  Queens. He was diagnosed with cancer in 2012 and retired from the NYPD in 2014.

A devoted family man, Pidoto checked himself out of the hospital a week before his death to attend his son’s wedding.
