Jon Stewart receives FDNY legend Ray Pfeifer’s coat in emotional moment before blasting lawmakers at 9/11 hearing

Before his scathing speech to Congress supporting the refunding of the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund, comedian Jon Stewart was given the turnout coat of Ray Pfeifer, a legendary FDNY firefighter who fought for the renewal of the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund from a wheelchair because of the 9/11-related cancer that killed him two years ago at 59.

Retired FDNY firefighter Kenny Specht gave Stewart the coat outside a Congressional hearing room before he spoke, reports WCBS 880.

“They [the rescuers of 9/11] responded in five seconds, they did their jobs with courage, grace, tenacity, humility — 18 years later, do yours,” Stewart told the few politicians who came to the meeting.
