House Speaker backs extending benefits for September 11 responders

On November 19, 2015, Reuters reported that Paul Ryan, speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, has given his support to extending the Zadroga Act for rescue and recovery workers injured or sickened by the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. He did not say whether or not he was in favor of permanent extension.

Congress allowed the Zadroga Act to expire months ago, causing anxiety and dread to the thousands of seriously ill people dependent on the program. Since the expiration, the sick have been reduced to begging politicians for the rights they deserve.
