Sixth-grade students from Griswold Middle School in Connecticut have raised more than $20,000 for a memorial in Griswold that will honor those killed in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. The children began raising money for the memorial three years ago.
The children designed the memorial, funded it with a GoFundMe page (with additional funds from a chicken dinner fundraiser by local firefighters), and it will be built with donated labor at no cost to the town. There is even money in the budget to maintain the memorial, writes John Barry for the Norwich Bulletin.
The memorial will be built on the northwest corner of the school’s varsity soccer field. A dedication ceremony is planned for September 7, 2019.
