The small town of Gander, Newfoundland is planning a two-day commemoration of the 15th anniversary of September 11, 2001, the day 39 planes landed there with 6,600 stranded airline passengers reports The Gander Beacon. This essentially doubled the population of the town. Residents found food, bedding, towels, washing facilities, medication and love for all of their unexpected visitors.
The anniversary events will be sponsored by Wounded Warriors Canada and the Gander and Area Chamber of Commerce.
