The Springfield, MA September 11th Memorial has raised half the funds it needs to build the memorial, reports Paul Tuthill of WAMC.
A piece of World Trade Center steel has been in storage since 2011. A design was chosen in 2016, with shadows of the beam being cast onto a wall bearing the names of the police officers, military personnel, and firefighters killed in the attacks. Apparently, the names of workers in the buildings and passengers and crewmembers of the planes are not going to be included on the memorial.
The memorial will be built by the Connecticut River in Riverfront Park.
A dedication of the monument is planned for this year’s September 11th observance.
