NEW YORK CITY — Days before downtown transit hub the Fulton Center was scheduled to open, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority announced that the opening date will be pushed back to the fall.

The $1.4 billion transit hub, originally slated to open June 26, won’t be completed for another 60 to 90 days, the MTA said, because of delays in system testing, including the fire alarms and elevators, officials said.

The delay is the latest to postpone the opening of the massive hub, which will be home to 10 subway lines and a variety of retail. The project was originally supposed to open in 2007, but was delayed due to funding issues and a series of escalating costs.

The MTA has also had to postpone the expected opening of the 7 train extension to the planned station at West 34th Street and 11th Avenue. The $2.4 billion extension, which had been planned to open by the end of the year, won’t be up and running until February 2015 at the earliest, MTA officials said.

The new 7 train station has faced construction delays on an intricate, diagonal elevator system, The New York Times reported.

Despite the delays, both projects remain on budget, MTA officials said.
