Fireboat McKean arrives at Pier 25 for a summer vacation

The retired FDNY fireboat John D. McKean, one of the boats that transported survivors away from Lower Manhattan during the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, is in Lower Manhattan for the next few months.

Currently homeless after complaints from Tarrytown residents, the McKean has been restored and is docked in Hudson River Park.

McKean has a storied history. In addition to her exploits during 9/11, the boat helped in the “Miracle on the Hudson” plane crash, and served the FDNY for many years, reports the Tribeca Citizen. June 24, 2021

The boat will be open for tours soon.
