Thirty-year NYPD veteran Detective George Moreno died of World Trade Center-related cancer on July 30, 2021 and was buried on August 4, 2021. He worked in gang-related and narcotics units throughout his NYPD career.
He was praised by his colleagues as kind, a hero and a gentleman. He spent nine months sifting World Trade Center debris at the Fresh Kills Landfill operation, as well as responding to the attacks on September 11, 2001 and working in the morgue, reports Aliza Chasan of WPIX 11.
