FDNY Fireboat John D. McKean from 9/11 and Miracle on the Hudson restored

A group of volunteers have worked for years to save retired FDNY Fireboat John D. McKean. The boat is now operational as a floating museum.

The McKean came out of retirement to pump water onto the World Trade Center rubble and took passengers ashore after US Airways flight 1549 landed in the Hudson River after a catastrophic bird strike.

Video of the boat’s restoration by NBC New York is available here.
