Retiring FDNY commissioner Daniel Nigro led COVID response, 9/11 recovery

Daniel Nigro will end his 53-year career with the FDNY on February 16, 2022. He has held every position in New York’s Fire Department and responded to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, reports Michael R. Sisak for the Associated Press.

Nigro became Fire Commissioner in 2014, and served the fourth-longest time in the office.

A successor has yet to be named.
