Farewell, My Pooch – Audrey, last dog who lived downtown on 9/11, dies

Audrey, 17, who is believed to have been the last survivor of the dogs who lived in Gateway Plaza on the day of the terrorist attacks, has died, writes Steve Dougherty in the Battery Park Broadsheet. She died on May 24, 2016.

She was a lifelong resident of  Gateway Plaza. After the attacks, she was trapped in her apartment for two days, as her owners could not get back to their home. Audrey was saved by a rabbi from Hackensack in a HazMat suit and by Angel, Gateway’s doorman, who stayed behind and let him in.
