Fallen Heroes Tree honors first responders who passed away in line of duty this year

The fifth annual Fallen Heroes Tree in Buchanan, Virginia honors the firefighters and law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty this year thoroughout the nation.

The tree is a project of the Buchanan Fire Department. This year’s tree bears 388 red and blue stars, which will be posted to the family of the fallen person once the tree is taken down.

Remembered on the tree are those who have died of World Trade Center-related illnesses, reports Brett Vickery for ABC 13.

The tree will remain lit until January 1, 2021.
