Nearly 40 people have died from World Trade Center-related illnesses in the last 4 months, writes Thomas Tracy for the New York Daily News.
More and more survivors of the attacks, rescue and recovery workers and lower Manhattan residents, students and office workers suffer from illnesses from their exposure. As of November 2018, 41,729 compensation eligibility claims were filed with the Victim Compensation Fund. In all likelihood, the fund will run out of money by 2020.
A number of members of the 9/11 community are attempting to persuade Congress to extend the fund and add to its coffers. It is the third time that those sick from their work at the site are forced to beg the government to pay for care for the sick.
