Gustavo Vila, disbarred lawyer, was convicted of stealing nearly $1,000,000 of a cancer-stricken friend’s World Trade Center compensation money. He will be sentenced on Monday, facing up to ten years in prison. He is requesting leniency, even though he was disbarred years ago for stealing another client’s down payment on a house.
Vila’s victim, retired NYPD Police Officer John Ferreyra, has World Trade Center-related cancer, reports Jonathan Bandler of the Rockland/Westchester Journal News.
