Brookfield Place Opens its Doors

Alexandra Ilyashov Fashion Week Daily

Brookfield Place has finally flung its doors open, with many of the haute retailers on the upscale shopping spot’s roster open and ready for business as of yesterday. The crowds popped into gleaming new outposts of stores like Diane von Furstenberg, Michael Kors, J. Crew, Paul Smith, Vince, and Satya. Bonobos’ stylishly-appointed digs were doling out truffled Umami Burger sliders, while new French bakery and eatery, Le District provided fresh brioches, croissants, and coffee—and the brand-new Equinox upstairs countered all that carbo-loading with shots of a purple-hued, virtuous-seeming smoothie.

Brookfield Property Group CEO Ric Clark gave opening remarks at the unveiling, and national director of retail leasing, Ed Hogan, was on hand as well. “After four years of development, we are extremely proud to see our retail vision come to fruition in Downtown Manhattan. The offerings of Brookfield Place—iconic retail brands, fine dining, and a robust arts program—are the epicenter of the new downtown,” said Hogan.

Pop by now to check out the slew of stores currently open, as well as the skirt-like “Soft Spin” installation of Canadian artist Heather Nicol’s vibrant sculptures hovering above the Winter Garden’s signature palm trees. Look out for a shiny new Salvatore Ferragamo outpost opening its doors on April 7, and check back soon for upcoming openings of haute shops like Bottega Veneta, Hermès, Burberry, and Ermenegildo Zegna in the next few months. Next year, Saks will join the Brookfield Place lineup as well. Ready, set, shop!
