Boston Marathon survivor and amputee Adrianne Haslet, who was badly injured when a car hit her this January, cannot run this year’s Boston Marathon, but plans to tackle Boston Athletic Association’s 5-K that weekend instead.
She was disappointed to miss the Marathon, as she was planning to run with an everyday prosthesis, rather than a running blade, to demonstrate that all amputees could run — even those with regular prosthetics, writes Jordan Smith for Runners’ World.
“I’m sad to not run [the marathon] this year. I have something to prove to marathon officials—[amputees] are not broken, we have missing pieces,” she said.
