‘Blue Alert’ bill, signed with fanfare, now stalled in Justice Department

The President signed the Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu National Blue Alert Act of 2015 into law last year after the murders of the NYPD members in its name. The law was supposed to protect police officers from ambush by establishing early warning systems of threats to police officers. Obama promised to do “everything we can to help ensure the safety of our police officers when they’re in the line of duty.”

No part of the law has been implemented more than a year later.Even after at least 14 police officers have been gunned down in several cities, no progress has been made, writes Gregory Korte in USA Today.
