The sculptor Steve Tobin spent 20,000 hours and took out a home equity loan in order to sculpt ‘Trinity Root”, his giant sculpture of the roots of the sycamore tree destroyed in the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. Until December, the sculpture stood by Trinity Church. The church moved the sculpture to Connecticut, damaging it in the process, without informing Mr. Tobin, reported James Barron in the New York Times.
Mr. Tobin said he would not have made the work if he had not believed it would remain in Lower Manhattan permanently.
