Arlington National Cemetery expands, 9/11 Memorial to be built

Construction will soon begin on the expansion of Arlington National Cemetery. More than 70 acres will be added to the graveyard, with space for 60,000 more graves, and local roads will be improved. Burials can then continue at Arlington until the 2050s.

Ultimately, with a 2025 opening date, the 9/11 Pentagon Memorial Visitor Education Center will be built, writes Stephanie Shipman for the Northern Virginia Magazine.

The cemetery expansion will be made first, beginning in late 2023, then construction on the Pentagon Visitor Education Center will begin.
