Annual NYC Tunnel to Towers 5-K honors firefighter Stephen Siller killed on 9/11

FDNY Stephen Siller, who was killed during the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, was honored with the 17th annual Tunnel to Towers run.

Siller was in Brooklyn when he heard about the attacks. He ran, in full firefighting gear, through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel (now known as the Hugh Carey Tunnel) to reach the World Trade Center, where he was killed trying to rescue people.

Now thousands of runners follow his footsteps through the tunnel to raise money for the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, which helps wounded veterans and cops and firefighters killed in the line of duty, reports WABC Eyewitness News.
