Spoilers for the A Million Little Things season 1 finale ahead.
The ABC show A Million Little Things added a 9/11 plot element in their season 1 finale, giving the reason for the suicide of the character of Jon (played by Ron Livingston) as guilt over missing Flight 11 on September 11, 2001, the crash of which into the World Trade Center killed the character of Dave.
Another character, Barbara Morgan (Drea de Matteo), is revealed to be Dave’s partner, who is now involved with Mitch, who is portrayed as a firefighter who responded to the attacks, writes Laura Bradley in Vanity Fair.
DJ Nash, creator of the show, said, “I didn’t want to make it at all feel like we were trying to sensationalize something that happened. In the pilot, this family loses their innocence, but their father takes his life; the husband takes his life; the friend takes his life. On 9/11, I think we are a country [that] lost our innocence.”
