NYPD Narcotics Detective Dominick Libretti, wounded in shooting on Staten Island, hailed as hero for protecting fellow officers

NYPD Detective Dominick Libretti has been seriously wounded, shot in the leg in the line of duty. Even while receiving urgent first aid for blood loss, Detective Libretti shielded his colleagues from the gunman’s fire.

Dr. Eli Kleinman, the NYPD’s supervising chief surgeon, told CBS reporters, “This is possibly a career-ending injury. The officer will be going to the OR because of some complications that have set in and we’re all praying for his recovery and we expect that he will make a full recovery.”

The suspect, a career criminal, was shot in the leg and is expected to recover. He is in custody.
