Former Pentagon police officer battling cancer could benefit from 9/11 victims’ fund

Former Pentagon police officer Mark Smilek suffers from a rare form of leukemia. Over the past two years, he has had chemo, nine doses of full body radiation, and two stem cell transplants. He now faces a possible round of treatment in Seattle.

He suspects that his illness was caused by his work at the Pentagon during the terrorist attack of September 11, 2019, reports Chandi Chapman for Pittsburgh Action 4 News.
