Newly-elected U.S. Representatives Max Rose and Lee Zeldin have agreed to educate other new members of Congress about the need to fully fund the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Reauthorization Act before it expires in 2020. The Act works with the 9/11 Victims Compensation Fund (VCF) to issue funding for the treatment of illnesses contracted by those exposed to toxins at the World Trade Center site.
The VCF has just announced that so many illnesses have arisen that they are nearly out of funds.
A new bill to save the VCF, the Never Forget the Heroes: Permanent Authorization of the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund Act, is scheduled to appear before Congress this month. If passed, the Never Forget bill would finally eliminate the need for the sick to beg Congress to renew the Zadroga Act every few years.
Rose represents part of Brooklyn and Staten Island. He is a veteran of the United States Army with combat experience in Afghanistan, reports Paula Katinas Brooklyn Daily Eagle.
