Targeted treatment for rare digestive tract cancers may extend survival

The National Cancer Institute reports new treatments that might help those with rare gastrointestinal cancers such as adenocarcinomas of the small intestine and biliary tract cancers. Those with these illnesses currently have few treatment options.

Biliary tract tumors bearing a specific genetic mutation have shrunk using a combination of dabrafenib (Tafinlar) plus trametinib (Mekinist).
