The USS New York arrived in Iceland on October 17, 2018 for a scheduled port visit to enhance U.S.-Iceland relations.
The crew will join sailors and soldiers from 31 allied nations for Trident Juncture 18, a NATO exercise for more than 40,000 participants to improve coordination with allies at times of crisis.
“Our crew and Marines are excited for the opportunity [to] visit Iceland, Captain Brent DeVore, New York’s commanding officer, told Mass Communication Specialist 2nd Class Lyle Wilkie. “It’s an unique and beautiful country, and only a very small handful of our team has had the chance to visit before. For many of us, this is a first-time visit. We look forward to learning about the rich history and culture of our Icelandic partners.”
The crew will also enjoy some of the sights of Iceland – the Blue Lagoon, Haukardalur’s geyser and hot springs, Thingvellir National Park, and the capital, Reykjavik.
