FDNY memorializes Maui boy Trucker Dukes as brother who died in line of duty

FDNY firefighters from Engine 39/Ladder 16 will install a new plaque honoring the memory of Trucker Dukes, a Hawaiian three-year-old who died of cancer in 2017. During his illness, Trucker needed treatment in NYC. Hearing of his illness and his desire to be a firefighter, the firehouse adopted Trucker.

Firefighters from 39/16 attended Trucker’s funeral in Hawaii last year and paid for his parents to attend the ceremony in Trucker’s honor, reports Chelsea Davis in Hawaii News Now. Engine 39/Ladder 16 lost two members, Robert Curatolo and Raymond Murphy, in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
