Long Island highway section to be named for late NYPD hero Steven McDonald

A section of the Southern State Parkway on Long Island will be named in honor of the late NYPD Detective Steven McDonald, who forgave the shooter who paralyzed him and spent his life doing good, reports Kenneth Lovett in the New York Daily News.

Detective McDonald was only in the second year of his NYPD career when in 1986 he was shot three times on the job and paralyzed from the neck down.

The section of highway between the interchange of the Belt Parkway and Cross Island Parkway and Nassau County’s Exit 22 will now be known as “Detective Steven McDonald Memorial Highway.”
