Four FDNY officers related to 9/11 heroes among 91 promoted in Brooklyn College ceremony

Three FDNY officers who were promoted last week — Deputy Chief Mark Egan and Lieutenants Luke Allen and Matthew Sweeney — are brothers of firefighters killed responding to the the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center. Another newly promoted FDNY lieutenant, Jesse Loughlin, lost his father, FF Keith Loughlin, to September 11th-related illness in 2014, reported Thomas Tracy for the New York Daily News.

Deputy Chief Mark Egan is the brother of FDNY Captain Martin Egan, who was killed on 9/11 at the age of 36. Lieutenant Allen lost his brother, Firefighter Richard Allen, 31, in the attacks, and Lieutenant Matthew Sweeney’s brother was Firefighter Brian Sweeney, 29, of Squad 288.

In all, 91 FDNY members were promoted in the ceremony.
