People magazine is joining the Welles Remy Crowther Charitable Trust and the American Heroes Channel to honor Welles Remy Crowther, who is credited with saving as many as 18 people in the South Tower of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, reports K.C. Baker in People. Crowther, 24, known as “the man with the red bandanna”, was killed in the attacks.

The winner of the third annual Red Bandanna Hero Award will receive a $10,000 donation to the charity of his or her choice.
