Swedish officials have agreed to Stockholm airport’s participation in the U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Preclearance program for screening overseas travelers. The program could be implemented in Sweden by 2019. Eleven other airports have been cleared to participate – Bogota; Buenos Aires; Edinburgh; Kansai; Milan; Reykjavik; Rio de Janeiro; Sao Paolo; and Saint Martin – reports Bart Jansen in USA Today.
The Preclearance program’s aim is to increase security and to screen passengers to prevent unwanted visitors from boarding aircraft to the U.S. Travelers like the program as it makes clearing Customs simpler and eliminates some lines.
