Staff Sgt. Stephen Valyou of the U.S. Army was paralyzed by a sniper’s bullet while serving in Iraq in 2007.
Thanks to the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, he now has a new “smart” home tailored to his needs. And thanks to some friends, he was able to parachute to it, writes Amanda J. Purcell in the Poughkeepsie Journal.
The home — everything from door locks to the thermostat to the shower — can be run from an iPad.
The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation was founded in memory of Stephen Siller, an FDNY firefighter who was killed during the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.Fifty more “smart” homes for wounded veterans are being developed by the foundation.
