Yannic Rack in the Downtown Express writes about downtown student and resident Helaina Hovitz, who was 12 when she witnessed the World Trade Center burning during the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
She was at IS 89 on Warren Street and tried to get home to Southbridge Towers.
Hovitz suffered from PTSD and alcoholism after the attacks and has now written a book, After 9/11: One Girl’s Journey Through Darkness to a New Beginning about her own experience and those of 16 other downtown students. The book will be released later this year.
