Patrick Downes, who lost a leg in the Boston Marathon bombing, is running the Marathon this year, despite the fact that his wife, Jessica Kensky, who lost two legs in the same attack, has suffered many complications and is not able to do so. The couple were newlyweds at the time of the bombing, writes Eric Moskowitz in the Boston Globe.
“I feel like I’m celebrating the body that I have left, and it feels spiritual,” Downes said. Downes is running for several charities, one of which is a BC Strong scholarship launched in honor of Kensky and Downes for struggling disabled students.
