Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal’s Tribeca Film Festival, a post-9/11 New York comeback story, started as just a ‘nice thing to do’

Shortly after the terrorist attacks of 2001, Robert De Niro and  Jane Rosenthal tried to help Tribeca, their neighborhood by putting together the first annual Tribeca Film Festival writes Ethan Sacks in the New York Daily News of April 9, 2016.

“We just thought it would be a nice thing to do,” said DeNiro.

The 15th annual festival runs April 13 to 24, 2016. It will showcase 101 films, several new television projects,anlong with experiments in virtual reality and immersive storytelling.

Rosenthal said, “The neighborhood would have recovered on its own, but I know what we did do is give people a reason to come downtown in early 2002, when people weren’t coming.”
