Captain Florent Groberg, a retired Army captain who tackled a suicide bomber in Afghanistan saving the lives of many, will receive the Medal of Honor at the White House on November 12, 2015.
Groberg twice deployed to Afghanistan, in November 2009 and February 2012. He and Sgt. Andrew Mahoney tackled a suicide bomber on August 8, 2012, as the bomber approached the senior military leaders they were assigned to protect.
Four people were killed in the blast, but most survived. Captain Groberg was badly wounded in the left leg, an injury that required 33 surgeries to repair. He also sustained a traumatic brain injury and a blown eardrum. He endured treatments for his injuries at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center from August 2012 until May 2015.
