9/11 health fallout worse than expected, research shows

The health effects of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center are worse than health officials had predicted, reports Ginger Adams Otis  New York Daily News

A recent summary of five new research articles on the health impacts of the rescue and recovery efforts at the World Trade Center site and Fresh Kills landfill, where debris was further examined, shows that more people are sick than had been predicted and that the number and types of illnesses — especially cancers — that they experience was much larger than expected. For example, about two-thirds of the FDNY firefighters who responded to the terrorist attacks have at least one related illness. Many have more than one illness related to their work at the site.
