9/11 witness Lawrence Altman’s fight to erase stigma of mental illness

Lawrence Altman lost friends in the World Trade Center terrorist attack and saw the second plane crash into the South Tower. He was a Wall Street oil trader,who had dealt with depression and anxiety for years.

He moved to Vail after the attacks and founded Aspen Strong. The organization offers financial help and other resources to those struggling with mental illnesses, writes Annie Uyehara for The Vail Daily.

“It’s the reason I’m talking about my life, to get rid of the stigma. I struggle with mental health every day, but I’ve survived and if I help one person, it’s worth it,” Altman said
