Retired NYPD Captain Douglas Greenwood, 61, shot himself on December 12, 2017 when the pain of his respiratory illnesses destroyed his quality of life, reported Ryan Bonner and Ciara McCarthy in the Huntington Patch.
Captain Greenwood, who was unmarried and childless, had told friends that when his World Trade Center-related illnesses grew unbearable, he would take his life. For more than ten years he battled a number of painful conditions related to his work during the aftermath of the September 11th attacks.
After his illnesses forced him to retire from the NYPD, Greenwood owned and operated the very popular and highly-rated Bleecker Street Pizza in the Village.
