“9/11 First Responders’ Fund” clears Senate and heads to Trump

After years of bureaucracy, this week the Senate approved H.R. 1327 the Never Forget the Heroes: James Zadroga, Ray Pfeifer, and Luis Alvarez Permanent Authorization of the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund Act, legislation that will provide permanently for those sickened or killed by exposure to the toxins of the World Trade Center site.

White House officials say that the President is expected to sign the bill into law on Friday.

Advocates who have worked for the bill’s passage for more than ten years, rejoiced, but sadly remembering so many who did not live to see the bill become law. Two NYPD detectives’ wakes coincided with the vote in the Senate, reported Emily Cochrane for the New York Times.
