49 died in a shooting at Pulse nightclub. He got out alive. To feel worthy of survival, he would need to make something of his life.

Angel Santiago, 30, survived the Pulse nightclub shooting on June 12, 2016, a terrorist attack that killed 49 people and injured 102. He was shot; one bullet in his knee, the other shattering his heel, reports Kathleen McGrory in the Tampa Bay Times.

His physical recovery has been difficult. His emotional recovery much more so.

Because of his experiences, he is studying to become a nurse. Here is his story.
