16 years after 9/11, children of the day’s victims are wed

Sean McGuire, the son of Patrick McGuire, and  Brielle Saracini, the daughter of Victor Saracini, were married on September 9, 2017.

Saracini was the captain of  United Flight 175, who was killed when terrorists hijacked his plane during the attacks of 9/11. The plane smashed into Tower 2 of the World Trade Center, killing Patrick McGuire as he worked at his office at Euro Brokers on the 84th floor, reports Michael Smerconish in the Philadelphia Inquirer.

The bride and groom met at Camp Better Days when they were 12, two years after the attacks. The camp was begun for children who lost a parent in the attack by Amy Callahan, who lost her fiancé, Scott Hazelcorn in the terrorist attacks of 9/11.

Brielle, who has also overcome a bout with cancer, left her father’s captain’s hat on a seat in the front row. A moment of silence was held for the absent fathers of the bride and groom.
