Son of convicted terrorist joins FDNY

There are 279 new probationary firefighters in the FDNY. One, John Palombo, is one of the 10 children of Frank Palombo, a  firefighter killed in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. Another is the son of a convicted terrorist, report Susan Edelman and Dean Balsamini in the NY Post.

Omar Ahmed Sattar is the son of Ahmed Abdel Sattar, an extremist who worked with the “blind sheikh” behind the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center and other terrorist plots. The elder Sattar is is serving a 24-year sentence for soliciting crimes of violence and conspiracy to murder Jews.

FDNY spokesmen said that the younger Sattar passed a background check.
