Lori Guadagno, sister of Richard Guadagno, Flight 93 passenger, wrote this after the January 6, 2021 attack on the US Capitol.
“Following the tragic events of 9/11 my family was comforted by overwhelming empathy, kindness and love from the citizens of a grieving country. That helped to initiate our recovery from the overwhelming loss and trauma marked by that day.
“One of the hardest things for me to personally accept in witnessing the tragic events of [Jan. 6] was confirming the loss of that collective unity. To see the deplorable, disgusting and unhinged behavior of American citizens attacking fellow citizens along with every truth we as a Nation have fought, sacrificed, struggled and died to uphold has sickened me to the core …
“To see this nation divided more than ever before by fear, hatred, lies and conspiracy theories is unimaginable but sadly a reality. We all have seen and experienced too much COLLECTIVELY in this past year alone not to reach into our higher selves and take care of each other.”
“I do not attempt to have the answers but I do know we are better than this. We have to be better than this.”
