The Walk with Joe has announced that with the 2012 donation made to the Samaritan Center, the total amount donated to the Samaritan Center since the walk’s inception in 2002 has reached $100,000.
The Samaritan Center, which is based in Manalapan, provides food to individuals and families in need in Manalapan, Marlboro, Englishtown and Millstone Township.
The Walk with Joe, which is held in September, honors former Manalapan resident Patrick “Joe” Driscoll, who was a passenger on United Airlines Flight 93 on September 11, 2001.
The 2012 Walk with Joe provided donations of almost $21,000, according to a press release.
In addition to the Samaritan Center, donations were presented to American Recreational Military Services, Freehold Open Door Food Pantry, the Monmouth County Child Advocacy Center, the Brennan Stands Alone Foundation, several scholarships at Manalapan High School and other local organizations.
Regina Finn, director of the Samaritan Center, said, “The donation could not have come at a better time on the heels of superstorm Sandy. Since the storm hit, the Samaritan Center has added many more families to those in need.”
Organizers thanked this year’s major sponsors: the Driscoll family, the Bogen family, the Blumberg family, the Logel family, Saker ShopRites Inc., Hartigan’s Grille, CME Associates, Englishtown Auction Sales, Fitness Magazine, MDB Corporation, Jacobson & Company, Oliwa & Company, the Manalapan Soccer Club, the Lee Deedmeyer family, Minuteman Press, Manalapan, and the Yorktowne Club.
The 12th annual Walk with Joe will be held on [Saturday,] September 7, 2013.
