The Federal Trade Commission and Federal Communications Commission have asked eight mobile phone manufacturers and six mobile phone carriers to provide information about security and how they provide security updates to customers and what security vulnerabilities they have addressed, reported David Shepardson of Reuters on May 9, 2016.
“‘Safety of … communications and other personal information is directly related to the security of the devices they use,’ the FCC declared. ‘There have recently been a growing number of vulnerabilities associated with mobile operating systems that threaten the security and integrity of a user’s device.'”
The companies contacted are required to respond to the questions within 45 days.
