Damian Battinelli, formerly of the U.S. Air National Guard, worked security at the World Trade Center site after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. New York State Trooper Brian Falb was also assigned to the site for a time.
Both men lived in the Plattsburgh area and bonded over their shared legacy from their time at the site — World Trade Center-related cancer.
This past Monday, Mr. Battinelli attended Trooper Falb’s funeral, reported Dan Heath in the Plattsburgh Press-Republican.
Battinelli, who suffers from site-related bladder cancer, said, “I kind of thought I was the only one in this area who had come down with cancer from 9/11.”
The article mistakenly refers to NYPD Detective James Zadroga as a firefighter.
