“After the September 11 attacks, the Port Authority stashed about 1 percent of the relics recovered from the World Trade Center ruins, everything from crushed police cars to store mannequins.
All but 226 of the 2,563 pieces have been distributed— sent to 1,472 organizations in the United States and abroad” writes Susan Edelman in the NY Post of December 13, 2015.
The Port Authority hopes to donate the final artifacts by March, 2016. Agencies who request an artifact must display it in public.
